THE TEAM
We got into 50cc racing after a workmate offered me a shot of his friends bike in a moped mayhem event. I took one look at the website, phoned my brothers, and we were in. Frasers pal Bob made it a team of four and thats the way its been for 6 seasons. Bobs son is 16 next year, so who knows, their may be a Team Lister on the grid next year.
Our first race at Elvington was an eye opener, as there were some fast 50's out there, RS 125 Hondas with Aprilia and derbi motors making 15bhp, and at Elvington making impressive top speeds. This made our standard AR with a Micron rather inferior in the speed stakes.
Over the next few seasons with lots of tuning, chassis modifications, practise, and broken bones, weve become competative. In 2007 we finished 3rd in the aircooled class, and in 2008 we were 2nd after a season plagued with mechanical woes.
For 2009, we have decided to use the same Derbi engine as is in our Honda for the AR. The motor proved reliable and fast, with tuning parts readily available. It also means we move into the busiest class with the Aprilia RS 50's. Our Kawasaki frame may be older than the RS, but its smaller and lighter, so it should be more agile. We'll find out soon.
