Round 1 at Rowrah went reasonably well for team Fastrider with some entertaining racing. We had high hopes for our new Derbi motor, and it proved to be a good package with the modded Kawasaki frame. It feels the same, but with a load more speed! We qualified well with Fraser putting in the best lap time on saturday morning which was only a hundredth off pole. I (Neil) got off to a good start in my race and was having a good race with the leader until i was baulked twice in a row, then had a monster slide on the top bend which meant i had to settle for second. Frasers first race saw him chasing Kev. He was giving it a good shot, but in the end paid the price and binned it! Bob and Al had solid rides with not too much drama. Bob had a fantastic holeshot in one race that saw him 3 metres ahead by the first bend. he held on for a few laps, but eventually was caught by the pack. A good days racing though.
Monday turned out to be a disaster. I went out first in the rain and was sitting nicely in third place when the gear lever fell off. Bummer. We got it back on but it was stuck in 3rd gear and i had to coast round for a few points. Things got worse after that, as the bike just wouldnt go. We tried changing everything (except the air filter) and yes, it was down to a sodden air filter! So, as has been the case in the last few championships, we've come away from Rowrah with few points. Great fun though!
