WHAT IS MOTO TEAM?

Fastrider have been 50cc road racing for 6 seasons. The championship started as a 6hr team endurance event, which was a lot of fun, but in the end it was too dangerous with some race bikes making twice the power of other mopeds.

the Moto-team series now run by FAB Racing is well organised, and more fun with bikes split into 2 groups. 50/70cc 2 strokes race with 144 pit bikes and 50cc air and watercooled road based bikes run with 125cc four strokes. Its still team based, but instead of endurance there are lots of short races, so everyone on the team gets 4 or 5 races a day. The benefits over ACU racing (ive done it) are: its much cheaper, you get masses of practise and racetime, and its more fun.

The racing is elbow to elbow knee down action, then we have a bit of a party in the evening, and do it all again the next day. Try it once and you'll be hooked.

CHANGE OF CLASS FOR FASTRIDER RACING

We've decided to change class for 2009 from aircooled kawasaki AR to watercooled Derbi. The aircooled class has dwindled so we chose to move into the busiest class with our special AR framed Derbi powered hybrid.

Fraser has spent hours in the garage and as a result we now have a modified cradle, ready to take the more powerful Derbi engine. Bob, Al and I have all taken trips to Warrington to help with the build, and Dad has been busy rebuilding the engines. Its been a massive undertaking, however it should be fast and we know it handles well.

The project has been effort first, cost second. For example our fancy new wheels from a cbr125 were £12 off ebay. The Brembo was bought new off RS125 guy IanE at half price. Forks off an old tzr 125 and cut on Dads lathe, fork springs from an autojumble. The list goes on. It all adds up, but as it stands its a racebike for the price of a pitbike.
